Migos’ Number One Album Is For The Culture

Offset, Quavo and Takeoff have done it! Migos’ Sophomore album Culture has earned them their first number one album on the Billboard Chart.

According to Billboard.com,, “Culture’s debut was driven by streams of its songs, as streaming equivalent album units accounted for 59 percent of the set’s first-week total (77,000 of 131,000). The album sold 44,000 in traditional album sales and earned 10,000 in track equivalent album units. It also arrives as Migos’ first No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts. The number one Billboard Hot 100 single “Bad and Boujee” featuring Lil Uzi Vert has been played and heard virtually everywhere. Although the track was a hit on its own merit, an unexpected shout-out during the Golden Globes helped the single skyrocket to high levels of awesomeness.

Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino paid the ultimate level of respect to the Atlanta-based Trio while accepting his Golden Globe award at the 2017 award show.”I’d like to thank the Migos — not for being on the show, but for making ‘Bad and Boujee.” The creator of the hit FX sitcom also spoke highly of the rap group backstage after taking home two awards for the show.”I think that they’re the Beatles of this generation and they don’t get a lot of respect, I think, outside of Atlanta. Not that they don’t get respect, but there’s a generation, sort of like the YouTube generation that I kind of came up with. There’s a generation of kids that are growing up on something that’s completely separate from a whole group of people. Honestly, that song is just fly. There’s no better song to have sex to.”

Not only did “Bad and Boujee” trend on twitter that night but the quick shout out also spiked the digital sales of the song by over 200%. According to YouTube, the song’s official audio and video had received more than 1.2 million views on Monday, the day after the Awards on top of 2.4 million views Sunday (the day of the telecast); both figures reflect global viewship.
*Now if only I could get Donald to shout out this website.*

After the announcement of the number one album spot, the members of the group tweeted a simple but very gracious tweet.

Congratulations Guys! A job well done.
