Yeezy Season is Here: Kanye Resurfaces On Twitter, Announces New Book and Gives Advice To Creatives
Updated (4/18/18) 11:26 A.M. : Since this article was posted, Kanye spoke for the first time about his forthcoming book, “Break the stimulation”.
When Kanye speaks, we all listen. Whether it be a rant or live feed of his stream of consciousness, Kanye has been known for telling his truth and for giving his input and advice to those who listen. Since the moment of his breakdown in 2016, Kanye’s appearances have been sporadic and close to none. Paparazzi catching pictures of him coming in and out of his office in California and his appearance during Kid Cudi’s PPDS Tour back in October only gave us the sense that Yeezy season was soon to come. How right we were.
Kanye reactivated his Twitter account on Friday, (April 13), after a year and some change of being away from the Twitter-sphere. It was an overwhelming moment for fans who wait for the announcement of his new album. Although Kanye has not made the announcement yet, he does share what he has been working on during his hiatus from the internet.
Sharing screenshots of the Photoshop versions of some Yeezy boots that he has been working on, Kanye tweeted, “Still working to get these right.” An indication of the hard work that Kanye continues to put towards his fashion line. As a man who never crumbles under the pressure of being a genius, Kanye also shared a photo of the reproduction of his Yeezy Season 6 Desert Rat boots with the Adidas Yeezy Boost 700 “Wave Runner” in the background. He shares that he has been working on the production shape of these boots for 6 months, and is happy about its final outcome.
The day before his return to Twitter, a new interview between Kanye and interior designer Axel Vervoordt was featured on The Hollywood Reporter’s website. Kanye interviews his good friend Axel about his instincts of art, design, and interior, his castle and his combining of western and eastern elements. It was during this interview that Kanye announced that he is working on his own book of philosophy.
“I’m writing a philosophy book right now called Break the Simulation. And I’ve got this philosophy — or let’s say it’s just a concept because sometimes philosophy sounds too heavy-handed. I’ve got a concept about photographs, and I’m on the fence about photographs — about human beings being obsessed with photographs — because it takes you out of the now and transports you into the past or transports you into the future. It can be used to document, but a lot of times it overtakes [people]. People dwell too much in the memories.”
It was also during this interview that Kanye spoken about his creative collaborator Virgil Abloh becoming the new artistic director of Louis Vuitton. “Because [Abloh and I] have been fighting to make apparel at a certain price that still has the same credibility and desirability as something at a higher price. … But when they say he was my creative director, that’s incorrect. He was a creative collaborator.” As much as people tried to make it appear that Kanye would be angry and even jealous of Virgil’s new position, it is in this quote that Kanye proves that he is neither and in fact, probably very happy of his move. However, he wants the world to know that Virgil and himself collaborate together and not separately.
Since his return back to Twitter, Kanye has found his way back to his old ways of speaking to the masses collectively. On Tuesday, (April 17) Kanye talked to the creatives of the world and advise them to stay away from contracts that would demolish their creativity.
It was during this stream of consciousness that Kanye ask creatives to stay transparent and to make moves through love and not fear. “You have to protect your ability to create at all cost,” is the most stellar message of the whole speech. The ability to create is a gift that most people take for granted, and Kanye wants those who know that this is not something to be taken for granted to protect it.
It is evident that Kanye has so much more to offer to the world and to his fans. He is slowly letting us back into his realm, and we should all be excited.
