History will be made when Kim Kardashian West receives the CFDA’s Influencer Award on June 4. Mrs. West will be the first recipient to ever receive the award.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. took notice that not only does Kardashian West have over 200 million followers across all her social channels, but she also runs several successful fashion and beauty brands, including Kids Supply, Kimoji, KKW Beauty, KKW Fragrance, and her own website kimkardashianwest.com.
“Kim is the most important and powerful influencer in the world,” said CFDA board member and fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. “Her reach extends far beyond her own brands. Every time she wears, posts or talks about a fashion brand, there is an immediate and significant increase in both awareness and sales.” CFDA Chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg stated in a press release that “Over the past decade, Kim Kardashian West has mastered the meaning of influence in the digital age.”
According to Steven Kolb, the CFDA president, and chief executive officer, it was all Tommy Hilfiger’s idea to decide the recipients of this year’s special honors. “Tommy Hilfiger said, ‘If you think about influencers and how they’ve changed our industry, I think we should acknowledge that,’” said Kolb. “[The board] all agreed that Kim was someone who has really impacted the industry and has changed the way brands are presented. She’s a friend of a lot of the designers and has had great influence on fashion globally.”
The CFDA Awards with be partnering up with Swarovski for the 17th year and will be hosted by Issa Rae and held at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
