Virgil Abloh first sparked attention in back in March when he was named the artistic director for the menswear department of Louis Vuitton. The following month, Virgil appeared at the MET Gala with a Louis Vuitton bag that he wore in a photograph with Takashi Murakami.
On Monday (June 11) Abloh shared a glimpse into the Louis Vuitton workshops through his Instagram account. In the clip, Abloh is shown sketching a design of his latest sneaker creation. The sketch shows a mid-top design with the iconic LV branded on the side of the sneaker and its signature monogram on the midsole. Calling it “a classic sneaker,” Abloh feels that the touch of gold or porcelain is what needed “to make it more rich.”
Abloh seems to have a newfound appreciation for porcelain, as it is also teased in a design of a handbag where its chain strap is made with porcelain. Abloh doesn’t steer too far from the iconic LV look as he also shares a small shoulder pouch made of the classic brown leather with the LV monogram.
Abloh is set to reveal his latest designs of the new Men’s Spring / Summer 2019 collection on June 21 in Paris, France.
