We recently celebrated the 10th year anniversary of Kid Cudi’s “A Kid Named Cudi” mixtape, that parachuted Cudi’s career to the height and importance that it is today. And even to this very day, his 2008 debut single “Day ‘N’ Nite” still remains one of his highest charting songs, peaking at Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track features co-production from Kid Cudi’s longtime friend and collaborator, Dot Da Genius–who has continued to collaborate with Cudi up to 2018’s Kids See Ghosts.
“I didn’t realize how mega it was, but Cudi knew,” Dot said, reminiscing over the now legendary track. “Cudi was like, ‘This song is going to be a number one song somewhere.” The song has sold over 2,000,000 digital downloads, ranking at number 15 on the “Best 25 Songs of 2009” list by Rolling Stone and number seven on Complex‘s “100 Best Songs of The Complex Decade“. As of today, “Day N’ Nite” has gone platinum three times.
