As you may have heard and seen, Facebook’s top show, ‘Red Table Talk,’ has returned for its fifth season, opening with singer and actress Janelle Monae.
Despite how you may or may not feel about Jada Pinkett-Smith, Will Smith, or Chris Rock, the show has been in the spotlight for its stories for several seasons now.
And now that the show has returned, we want to remember the previous seasons and their viral moments. Here are five viral moments from Red Table Talk.
- Jordyn Woods Talks Tristan Thompson
Shortly after the news broke that Jordyn Woods and the boyfriend and baby daddy of Khloe Kardashian shared a kiss at a party, Woods appeared on an episode of Red Table Talk to tell her side of the story. Jordyn soon became the target of full-blown online attacks, notably led by Khloé’s friends Malika Haqq and Larsa Pippen.
Woods revealed that after going to dinner with friends, she went to a party that was held at a bar; Thompson happened to be at the same party.
“He didn’t even personally invite me there. He didn’t say, ‘Come see me.'” She also noted that she left there around 7 a.m.,” Woods said. “which isn’t unusual for her since she and her friends frequently party that late.”
Woods stated that there was never any sexual activity between her and Thompson.
“Never once was I giving him a lap dance, making out with him, being all over him . . . never once did we leave the public area, go to a bedroom . . . there was always someone there up until the moment I left.”
Woods noted that the incident had affected her family immensely, including her brother not being able to go to work or her then 12-year-old sister couldn’t attending school.
“I may have done something wrong, but whatever I did, I don’t think I deserve this. It’s not fair. If I was a weak person, I would’ve hurt myself. It’s even hard for me to say this,” Woods said. “Everyone’s safety is now — we can’t leave the house. My brother can’t go to work, my sister can’t go to school — she’s 12 years old — Mom can’t even go to the grocery store.”
- Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Entanglement
During an episode of RTT in 2020, Pinkett-Smith confessed that she was once romantically involved with singer August Alsina. According to the actress, the relationship occurred roughly four and a half years ago when she was separated from her husband Will Smith, who later joined her for the show.
The week before the episode, Alsina discussed his relationship with Pinkett-Smith on social media, causing rumors.
Pinkett-Smith said she thought she and Will were done indefinitely as the couple discussed the issue. Smith said that he was done with his wife but understood that marriages go through that sometimes.
“I was done with yo ass. I was done with you,” Smith said. “Marriages have that though.”
The 50-year-old Pinkett Smith initially said she and Alsina, 29, were close friends and wanted to help him get healthier. Alsina has been very open about his struggles with an autoimmune disease.
“It all started with him just needing some help,” Pinkett Smith said. “Me wanting to help his health, his mental state.”
Pinkett Smith said that although she was in a lot of pain and was very broken during the relationship with Alsina, she learned a lot about herself and did a lot of healing.
“Through that particular journey, I’ve learned so much about myself and was able to really confront a lot of emotional immaturity,” Pinkett -Smith said. “emotional insecurity and I was really able to do some really deep healing,” she explained.
After some time, the Smiths got back together and decided to work on their marriage.
“I feel like there are a lot of couples that go through those periods. And a lot of couples that separate and think it’s over,” Pinkett-Smith said. “One thing I’ll say about you and I is that there’s never been secrets.”
The couple ended the show by jokingly quoting Will Smith’s “Bad Boys” movie motto.
“We ride together. We die together,” they said. “Bad marriage for life.”
- Kid Cudi Talks Mental Health
In 2018, rapper and actor Kid Cudi appeared on Red Table Talk to talk about mental health, addiction, and other parts of his life.
During the peak of the conversation, Cudi went into detail about his most recent struggles when Willow Smith asked how it feels to be so influential to a generation.
“That’s where most of the bad stuff came in because I have to live up to being this person, and I don’t feel like that,” Kid Cudi said. “It’s like doing a comedy, but you’re miserable. It’s like my life was this show and I was always supposed to be on, but when the show was over I was completely miserable for a long time. I was not happy when I woke up in the morning, it started off with something as simple as that. Just being like ‘Why don’t I feel OK?’ and not really knowing what that was.”
In addition to speaking about being clean, he shared what brings him solace these days.
“Two years, two and a half years, off of cocaine,” he said, noting that he went through separate periods of heavy cocaine intake in his early 20s and again during the Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin’ era.
“It’s a beautiful thing. I think just getting back out into the world, doing what I love again, has really been big for me,” Kid Cudi said. “But then also, spending time with my daughter. … My daughter is my world.”
- Matthew McConaughey’s 8-year estrangement from mother
Matthew McConaughey discussed an eight-year estrangement with his mother, Kay, on Red Table Talk.
“It’s been really lovely. I’m enjoying being around my grandchildren. Matthew is a very good son,” Kay said. “I’m going to give myself some credit for raising him right.”
Kay also shared that she treats her grandchildren just as she treats her sons, Matthew, and older brother, Mike. “If they smart off to me, if doesn’t turn out well,” she said.
During one episode of Hard Copy—the tabloid show featured Matthew’s childhood home. A friend alerted Matthew to the appearance, and he was surprised to see his mother giving a tour when he turned on the TV.
“Mom’s leading the camera going, ‘And there’s the bed where I caught him with Michelle…no big deal because she didn’t last,” Matthew said. “Over here’s the bathroom, of course I walked in oh him in there and caught him doing you know what before…’ and I’m over here going, ‘Holy shit, Mom.”
Kay admitted that she may have been “enjoying his fame more than [Matthew] was.”
Matthew eventually confronted his mother. “Of course, she’s watching it too, and I hear the same damn show in the background,” Matthew said. Despite her best efforts, he was not convinced by her defense: “She goes, ‘I didn’t think you’d find out.'”
Matthew felt that after that breach of privacy, he needed to distance himself from his mother. Eventually he rekindled his relationship with his mother.
“My boat was built well enough that I didn’t think she could sink it and then I just took the reins off and said, ‘Mom, hit that red carpet,” Matthew said. “Talk to all of them, tell them all the stories you want’ and she’s been great about it since.”
- Ciara talks public breakup and Marriage with Russell Wilson
Back in June of 2019, Ciara appeared on an episode of Red Table Talk, where she talked about her relationship with rapper Future and finding love with her husband, Russell Wilson.
It was the first time Ciara opened up about her split from the Atlanta rapper in 2014, after giving birth to their son a few months prior. The singer recalled when she stood in the shower crying over their broken relationship.
“I’d be in the shower, crying because I’m not in the happiest place,” Ciara said. “It hurts what I’m going through.”
Ciara and Future’s breakup was vicious and ugly, and following their split, Ciara filed for sole custody of their son. However, despite the brutal court battle that ensued and still healing from heartbreak, Ciara would find love again.
She married the Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson in 2016, and a year later, they welcomed their daughter, Sienna.
“It was different,” Ciara noted when asked how she knew Wilson was “The One.” “He was like this, open arms, like, I got you.”
